Solvent Blending

Solvent Blending Facilities

Our solvent blending facilities enable Waste to Energy through processing solvent and organic waste into an alternative fuel that can be used by the cement and lime industries to fuel their kilns. This reduces the dependency on fossil fuels, prevents waste to landfill/incineration and hence has net environmental savings.

Tradebe has the largest solvent blending capacity in the UK, processing over 100,000 tonnes per year at our Lancashire site. Our facility can directly handle large quantities of bulk or drummed waste, while smaller quantity containers are bulked at waste transfer stations.

Suitable Waste Types

Our facilities blend solvent and organic material to a high specification determined by the kilns that utilise the secondary liquid fuel. The kilns reach temperatures of over 1,450C, this along with the long duration utilises the intrinsic calorific value of the solvent and organic material.

Waste streams that are suitable for incorporation into secondary liquid fuel include:

  • Paints
  • Thinners
  • Ink
  • Varnish
  • Adhesives
  • Automotive Fluids
  • Cleaning Solvents
  • Other Organic Material

Customers’ solvent and organic material is sampled and analysed to determine the suitability of the material for our secondary liquid fuel. Waste suitable for solvent blending can be given a Recovery (R) code, helping to improve our customer’s environmental accreditations.
